Former Golden Arrows' goalkeeper Davies Phiri says he is contemplating taking the route of goalkeeper coaching following a strenuous year spent at Durban Stars last season, when he regularly doubled by as stand-in coach while at the same time sitting on the bench.
Phiri, now 32, is currently without a club after turning his back on Stars, who he claims, are notoriously problematic with financial issues and, in fact, maintains that he is still owed money.
"I am at a stage where I either get a club to play for or take up a goalkeeper coaching job. But I strongly feel that I can make a good contribution as a goalie coach with all the experience I have gained over the years at club level and in the national team.
"I spent 10 years playing for the Zambian national team so I have accumulated tremendous experience which also makes me someone whom they respect back home.
"While I am undecided about my future, my heart tells me to go into coaching because of what happened last season at Durban Stars.
"I was made to regularly assist with coaching and at the same time sat on the bench. I often played and took over the coaching when the club didn't have a coach.
"Such experiences really make me want to move straight into coaching, but at the same time, I also think that I can still play for a couple of more years," says Phiri.
Phiri initially arrived at Free State Stars from Kabwe Warriors six years ago before then moving to Arrows where he played regularly until he left in May last year.
