Former Governor of Anambra State, Chukwuemeka Ezeife has posited that the establishment of Small and Medium scale Enterprises (SMEs) by the teeming unemployed Nigerians remains the catalyst to Nigeria's socio-economic development.
Ezeife stated this on Thursday during the 1st Annual Lecture/ Public Books Presentation organised by PZ Nwafor Foundation in Abuja.
He further stated that what Nigerians need at this time was an entrepreneurship training skill to ensure employment generation, wealth creation and poverty reduction in the country.
The former governor charged the youths to be persistent in their vocations and trades, in spite of the socio-economic challenges confronting them.
Also speaking on the occasion, the Founder of PZ Foundation (a Non-Governmental Organisation) and author of the books, Patrick Nwafor advised the government to create an enabling environment for the establishment of SMEs, adding that entrepreneurship training development skills should be incorporated into the curricula of schools at all levels of education in Nigeria.
He also bemoaned the high rate of poverty in Nigeria, noting that hunger robs man of his dignity.
According to him, "Nothing shakes a man's heart like hunger, nothing debases his dignity like hunger and nothing enslaves him like hunger."
The highpoint of the occasion was the presentation of two books to the public entitled "Practical Approach to Entrepreneurship" and "Stress and Time Management for Entrepreneurs and Managers."
