Director ministerial leadership initiative, MLI, Wednesday said Sierra Leone was fortunate to have Dr Soccoh Alex Kabia as its minister of health and sanitation.

Rosann Wisman made this pronouncement in Mali during the global ministerial forum on research for health.

"Sierra Leone is fortunate to have Dr. Kabia as health minister. He is a true leader and we are ready to work with him. He has vision and practical approaches towards changing the health system in Sierra Leone," she said.

Wisman said the minister has huge responsibilities and challenges, adding that he was systematic in trying to tackle the health problem in his country.

"MLI has confident in Dr. Kabia. His excellence ideas and plans he has for the health sector in Sierra Leone are great," she said.

Wiseman said her organization intends to work in Sierra Leone and four other countries.

She said, however, although the minister doesn't have the resources but he has an in-depth knowledge and understanding of health issues, adding that "that is why my organization will work with the health minister to tackle the health problem in Sierra Leone."

Wisman said: "The minister has improved on the health situation in Sierra Leone and he has made progress in terms of policy reforms and skill knowledge. MLI will provide technical assistant to the minister as he need sound and capable people to work with him."

Wisman said the minister has challenges including maternal health, women and children.

She said the objective of her organization was to enhance decision making capacity and skills of ministers of health to improve the equity of health financing and utilization of health services in favor of the poor and vulnerable people.

"We also want to promote innovative and large scale policy reforms designed to improve reproductive health outcomes in select MLI countries," Wisman said, adding that political leadership was the cornerstone of any effort to improve the health status of any country.
