THE bloated corpse of a yet-to-be-identified middle-aged man was yesterday pulled out of the Oworonshoki end of the Lagos lagoon where a car plunged into it on Monday.

The car, a blue Volkswagen Jetta saloon with number plate Lagos PJ 132 KJA reportedly fell into the lagoon after it lost control on top of Third Mainland bridge while coming from Lagos towards Oworonshoki and ran into the pavement beside the road.

Eyewitness account said the car later hit a plaque near the spot and turned round after which it plunged into the lagoon around 11.55pm. It was gathered that both the Marine Police, Fire Service Personnel and officials of Lagos State Emergency Ambulance Unit including Policemen attached to Rapid Response Squad (RRS) rushed to the scene but could not do much as a result of darkness.

They reportedly reconvened early Tuesday morning with local divers and started making efforts to recover the car from the lagoon.

Investigations showed that the car was driven by a driver employed by Niside Resources of Number 24/26, Boyle Street, Onikan Lagos while its original owner is Westcom Wireless with an office at plot 14, block 3, Ogun Street, Osborne, Ikoyi, Lagos.

The driver of the vehicle at the time of the accident was identified as Sunday Oloko (34) but his whereabout was yet to be known.

As at the time of writing this report, frantic efforts were still been made to recover the body of the driver while the car was taken to Yaba Police Station.
