Nigeria: Teams to Play Behind Closed Doors

The Nigeria Premier League have directed Gateway, Kano Pillars and Gombe United to play their matches behind closed doors pending the determination of their cases by the Disciplinary Committee of the Nigeria Football Federation.

A statement from the NPL said all three clubs were sanctioned because of the unruly behaviour of their fans.

"Gateway Football Club fans were alleged to have assaulted match officials in their match against Akwa United at their hotels after an earlier attempt to manhandle them was foiled at the stadium.

"Gombe United is to play behind closed doors because of the action of their fans during their encounter with Sunshine Stars.

"The club had earlier in the season got a letter of warning from the Premier League advising it to curb the excesses of its fans who are in the habit of intimidating match officials.

"Kano Pillars on their part are to play behind closed doors because of the unruly behavior of their fans in their match against Sharks," the statement read.
