Nigeria: Women's Teams Face Coaching Clear Out

21 November 2008

A mass purge is expected in the Nigerian women's team coaching set-up following the poor performances of the national teams in recent months.

Super Falcons coach Joseph Ladipo and Flamingoes coach Felix Ibe-Ukwu are the two under immediate threat while Falconets coach Dan Evumena is said to be 'not safe' despite a good start at the FIFA Under 20 Women's World Cup in Chile.

"We are going to have an overhaul in the technical crews of the women's national teams," a top NFA source informed KickOffNigeria.com.

"All these poor results are not good for our image and we need to do something before we are disgraced even more."

Ladipo led the Falcons to a first round exit at this year's Olympic Games and is now one match away from making a seismic first round exit from the African Women Championships in Equatorial Guinea, a tournament Nigeria have never failed to win.

Ibe-Ukwu also led his girls to a first round exit from the FIFA Under-17 Women's World Cup.

NFA bigwigs present in New Zealand told KickOffNigeria.com they were left bewildered by his limited abilities, and not just in technical terms.

"It was shocking," KickOffNigeria.com was told.

So far, an official position has not been taken because the NFF has been caught up in a breathless whirlwind of activities, KickOffNigeria.com was informed reliably that Lad and Ibe-Ukwu were history.

Evumena will probably have to win the World Cup to keep his job.
