Angola: Country's Role in Establishment of Gulf of Guinea Commission Recognised

Luanda — The executive secretariat of the Gulf of Guinea Commission, Carlos Bragança Gomes, Sunday in Luanda, highlighted the engagement of Angola in the process of its establishment in the country.

The official was speaking at the opening of the session of the organisation's Council of Ministers.

He said that the creation and establishment of any new institution is always a hard task, mainly when it brings together several States with different realities and capacities, "even when the political will is coincident."

Carlos Bragança Gomes said as well that the Executive Secretariat members were assigned a three-year mandate, of which two have been used in the establishment of the Secretariat and the documents regulating its activity.

Even though, the official added, the process will take some more time after the approval of the documents by the heads of State whose summit is schedule for Tuesday, November 25 this year.

Carlos Gomes said that in its last year of mandate, the Secretariat will reinforce its engagement in a more transparent management of the orgnisation's resources, implementation of the Action Plan and other recommendations from the expected summit of heads of State.

The executive secretary said he believes the documents are ready for adoption, ahead of the approval by the heads of State, judging from the experts' engagement during the two days of discussions of the matters proposed for the 4th session of the Council of Ministers of the Gulf of Guinea Commission.

The Commission is an organ for concert among the Gulf of Guinea countries for cooperation and development, prevention of border-related conflicts, economic and commercial matters and exploration of natural resources.

It is the organisation's task to reinforce cooperation and solidarity among member states, create mutual trust, peace and security required for their harmonious development.
