Uganda: Five Die Crossing Mubende Bridge

Kampala — OVER five people have died in one year while trying to cross a flooded bridge in Kitumbi sub-county, Mubende district, the LC3 chairman has said.

Floods always cover the bridge on River Kitumbi that connects Mubende to Kiboga district.

"Many of our traders were transporting Matooke to Kiboga but now they cannot," Emmanuel Nsubuga said.

The bridge is the only route to Kiboga, Hoima and Masindi districts from Mubende.

Sub-county vice-chairman Augustine Gasasira said the river was also a problem to the students and children going to schools

He said students pay sh1000 everyday to cross the river on a boat while going to school.

"They may end up dropping out of school because the money is too much."
