Kampala — A UPDF soldier on Wednesday shot dead a Karimojong mother at a protected kraal in Rupa sub-county, Moroto district.

Moroto resident district commissioner Nahaman Ojwee said the unidentified woman was shot at about 8:00PM near the Rupa army detach while opening the kraal.

The army in 2006 established protected kraals where warriors in a given area keep their animals near an army detach for night protection and take them for grazing in the morning.

The warriors are supposed to take the animals to the protected kraals before 7:30PM to be guarded by the soldiers.

Ojwee said the soldiers mistook the woman for a cattle raider since it was dark.
