Uganda: Ssekandi Advises Bukomansimbi Residents

Kampala — THE Speaker of Parliament, Edward Ssekandi, has advised Bukomansimbi residents to lodge a complaint with Mengo High Court, which sent court bailiffs to arrest their area MP Lubyayi Kisiki and instead of petitioning Parliament.

"If you lodge your complaint, the court will understand that the bailiffs mistreat people," Ssekandi told protestors at Parliament on Thursday.

He said it was wrong for the protestors to petition Parliament challenging the manner in which Lubyayi was manhandled.

The petitioners alleged that it was Kampala Central MP Erias Lukwago who ordered for the arrest.

Last month Mengo High Court ordered court bailiffs led by Moses Kirunda to arrest Lubyayi for failure to pay sh13.5m court fees to Lukwago and Co advocates, which belongs to Lukwago.

The bailiffs dragged Lubyayi from Makerere University where he was attending lectures, to Wandegeya Police station. Lubyayi resisted the arrest, till he was dragged to Mengo high court and forced to pay sh5m cash, having a balance of sh8.5m.
