Makurdi — Benue state Commi-ssioner for Youth and Sports, Mr. Benjamin Vember has restated the state government's resolve revive sporting activities in the state to attain an enviable position.
Vember stated this last Friday during a meeting with members of the newly constituted 23 sporting associations in the state and stressed the need for them to move sports forward to bring back the enviable glory of the state in sporting activities.
He charged members and patrons of the various associations to brace up to the challenges ahead and be prepared to offer sacrifices to succeed in their new assignment, reminding them that the assignment does not attract payment.
The Commissioner exp-lained that their nomination was not based on their individual interest, but on the opportunity offered to them by government to render service for sports development, and maintained that anyone not willing to serve should opt out.
Responding on behalf of other members of the various associations, Prof. Armstrong Adejo of Benue State University Makurdi, who is one of the nominated Patrons, thanked Governor Gabriel Suswam for his initiative on the way forward in sports and promised on behalf of others to do their best to achieve the desired goal.
Speaking earlier, the state Director of Sports, Chief Gilbert Kaso, acknowledged the commitment of the state governor to the development of sports in the state and observed that sporting associations have not been constituted in the state for the past 30 years.
Chief Kaso expressed appreciation to the Commissioner for Sports, Mr. Vember and the governor for constituting the associations, which he said would go a long way in enhancing sports development in the state.
THISDAY investigation revealed that the state governor, Gabriel Suswam tomorrow, would inaugurate the 23 sporting associations.
