Uganda: NRM 'Rebels' Hold Secret Meetings

Kampala — The NRM legislators branded rebels for their dissent against party positions have reportedly been having frequent meetings lately.

In their last meeting at Hotel Africana, a fly on the wall says they planned to reconcile with the party chairman and also discussed conditions which include demands to have some individuals thrown out of government for them to toe the party line consistently.

Some of the 'rebels' championed the anti-Mbabazi campaign during the debate on the NSSF-Temangalo land saga.

According to the grapevine, the rebels' existence pre-dates the Temangalo saga. But they just used it to vent out their anger.

The 'rebels', who are said to number over 20, are reportedly brought together by diverse grievances. Some have troubles with paying bank loans and their plea to get government bailouts have been unsuccessful. Others are faced with investment misfortunes and have also failed to secure the needed support.

Then there are those who had promised their electorate that they would be appointed ministers and this has not happened, so they want to get into Cabinet.

During the Hotel Africana meeting, they reportedly aggregated their grievances and demands in a proposal, which they want to discuss with the party chairman, President Yoweri Museveni.
