Kigali — A Cabinet meeting last week announced Major Christophe Bizimungu, previously a Rwanda Defence Forces officer as the new CID Chief. This came after an earlier Presidential decree endorsed Maj. Bizimungu's transfer from the armed forces to the police.
"Yes it is true he has been appointed as the new Chief of the CID but he has not yet started duties since he is still preparing and handing over at his previous appointment," Emmanuel Kabanda, the police spokesman, told The New Times yesterday.
Christopher Bizimungu is the former Chief of Military Prosecution. He replaces Superintendent Tony Kuramba who has been acting CID chief ever since Costa Habyara was sacked.
The CID's foremost challenge is combating crime to ensure the safety and security of Rwandans. The branch coordinates criminal investigation activities.
It consists of six specialised units, each with specific tasks. The units include Criminal Investigations and Scientific Police (C.I.S.P), Anti Narcotics Unit (A.N.U), Economic and Financial Crimes (EFU), Interpol, Criminal Records Office (C.R.O) and an administrative unit.
