Uganda: Get Set, Go!

22 November 2008

Kampala — MOSES Kipsiro will be favourite to defend the 10k race title while Joseph Nsubuga will fight to end Kenya's dominance of the men's marathon when the fifth edition of the MTN Kampala Marathon takes off this morning.

The 21-year-old Kipsiro, whose last race in Kampala was during the previous year's event when he won the 10km event with ease, will be out to prove that he is still Uganda's best distance runner in the open category that comes with a winning prize of sh1.4m.

Uganda's best performer at the Beijing Olympic Games - where he finished fourth in the 5000m final - will take on a host of local promising stars that include James Kibet and Abraham Kiplimo in his search for more honours.

Nsubuga, who finished second in last year's marathon, believes that he has gained enough experience in running the full marathon that this edition will offer him that opportunity of reclaiming the title he last won in 2004 when he registered a new personal best of 2:18:21.

He is striving to qualify for the IAAF World Athletics Championship that are due in Berlin. Isaac Kiprop will be out to try and win the half-marathon.
