Uganda: Suspected Marijuana Dealers Netted

Kampala — THE Police in Lira district on Thursday arrested two men suspected to be part of the leading marijuana smokers and dealers in Lira town.

Godfrey Okello, 22, and Alex Gira, 28, were nabbed from their hideout in Ojwina Division where they were smoking the drug.

Gira, a boda boda cyclist, confessed that he smokes marijuana to get strength to do his work.

Okello denied the allegation, saying he was arrested at the scene but the owners of the drug fled after noticing the Police.

The officer in charge of criminal investigation, Christopher Ucamgiu, said the two would be charged with smoking and being in possession of illicit drugs.

"We nabbed them with bundles and rolls of marijuana which they were smoking and processing some for sale. They will be taken to court as soon as possible," Ucamgiu said.

He said the Police were aware of places where marijuana is consumed in the town and that they would continue making surprise raids until it was completely eradicated.
