Luanda — Angola's consul in Lisbon (Portugal), Cecília Baptista, Saturday appealed Angolans living in the autonomous region of Madeira to keep their cultural identity.
The diplomat made the appeal at the end of a three days mission with the Angolan community in the region.
Cacília Baptista, whose jurisdiction covers the Madeira region, said she found it curious that many Angolans are not duly integrated in the region, as many are still experiencing precarious living conditions.
To her, Angolans should not lose their habits, their culture and life style, despite living overseas.
She said the fact of residing in Madeira or elsewhere should not be a factor impeding Angolans from preserving their cultural identity.
The official appealed to the more than 60 Angolans resident in the island to have a concern to keep their natural link with the motherland.
