Nigeria: Construction of Badagry Dual Carriage Way - Lagos Government Screens Ten Contractors

The Lagos State Government has screened 10 contractors who have indicated readiness to re construct the present Lagos -Badagry Road to a 10 lane dual carriageway with light rail public transport on the median and a Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) System that will transform the road to a super highway.

It will be recalled that earlier this year, the Lagos State Government indicated interest to reconstruct the 48 years old expressway through the placement of Advertisement for bids in national newspapers for eligible and qualified bidders to apply for the reconstruction of the road.

The Special Adviser to the Governor on Works and Infrastructure, Engr. Ganiyu Johnson disclosed this during the Public Opening of bids in the presence of all contractors that bidded for the re construction of the Lagos Badagry expressway.

Ganiyu Johnson emphasized, that Governor Babatunde Fashola of Lagos State administration has exhibited a great deal of transparency in governance and followed due process in the process of executing the project which is the hall mark of the administration.

The reconstruction of the road project which was divided into 3 lots, is broken down accordingly; lot 1- is the Eastern section of the Road which has a distance of 7.20km and is to commence from Eric Moore -Mile 2, while lot 2 consist of the Central Section, which has a distance of 24.5km and commences from Mile 2 - Agbara, while the Western Section is 28.57km long which Commences from Agbara- Badagry.

Some of the 10 companies that bided for the construction of the dual carriageway are; Chinese Construction Engineering Company (CCECC), Arab Contractors, PW Nig Ltd, Hi-tech Construction Company Ltd, Moreno Marina Lagoon, Key - Based Ventures, Lekon Engineering Service Ltd, Ugur- B-AS Construction Ltd and Sanju- Sunny Nig Ltd.

A breakdown of the lots according to Ganiyu Johnson shows that; Chinese Construction Engineering Company (CCECC) indicated interest to construct - Mile 2- Agbara and Agbara-Badagry, Arab Contractors Nig Ltd- Eric Moore -Mile 2 - Agbara- Badagry, P.W Nig Ltd -Eric Moore - Mile 2, Salini Nig Ltd - Eric Moore -Mile 2- Agbara- Badagry, CGGC Global Project Nig Ltd - Mile 2 - Agbara - Badagry and others.

Others include: Hi- tech Construction Ltd - Eric Moore - Mile 2-Agbara -Badagry, Moreno - Marina Lagoon- Eric Moore -Mile 2-Agbara - Badagry, Key - Based Ventures - Eric Moore -Mile 2, Lekon Engineering Service Ltd - Mile 2- Agbara - Badagry,), Ugur B-AS Construction Ltd- Eric Moore -Mile 2 - Agbara- Badagry.

Johnson Further said that, all the bids which were publicly opened in the presence of all the contractors would now be appraised by the Ministry of Works and Infrastructure and advanced Engineering Construction Company- which is the state government Consultant.

The special adviser noted that the project is a great engineering challenge to the state government as well as to the administration particularly in its desire to provide an enduring infrastructure that would meet the mega city status of the state.

Similarly, the chairman of the state Tenders Board Mr. Rotimi Oyekan Commissioner for Finance expressed the strong desire of the state government to achieve the great feat, which said would no doubt open up the entire corridor to more investment for the state government.
