A Form Five student of the Cameroon College of Commerce High School, CCCHS Kumba, Lovett Foncha, 19, recently, allegedly stabbed his mate, Roger Ewane Abase, 18, leading to his death, over a love affair.
The horrid incident took place Thursday, November 13, on the school campus at about 8:30 pm, The Post was told. But Ewane died five days later at the Kumba District Hospital.
Before Ewane was stabbed in a brawl on the school campus, the two boys had reportedly been at daggers drawn over a girl they were both dating.
On that night, The Post learnt, Ewane was in school reading, when he picked a quarrel and subsequently a fight with three non-students who had reportedly been disturbing him.
According to witnesses, the boys reported the matter to Lovett, who already had a grudge against Ewane.
A witness, Jude Tanwi, Form Five class prefect and friend to the deceased, told The Post that when Lovett met Ewane that night, he (Lovett) told him (Ewane) that he had been planning him for long and the time for action had come.Tanwi said Lovett told the deceased that he came for revenge.
He explained that Lovett immediately challenged Ewane to a fight and before they could intervene, Lovett had stabbed Ewane with a knife several times on his stomach. After his gruesome act, Tanwi said, Lovett immediately disappeared.
The Post learnt that the deceased was rushed to the Kumba District Hospital, where he died Tuesday, November 18.A relation to Ewane revealed to The Post that before his brother died he confessed that the girl in question had a mermaid spirit and her spirit might have influenced Lovett's action.
Following the news of Ewane's death, his friends and well-wishers constituted a mob and stormed Lovett's Confidence Street, Fiango residence. The mob ordered Lovett's grandparents to park out immediately for them to set the family house ablaze. In spite of pleas by local administrators and Lovett's grandparents, the mob poured petrol round the abode threatening to burn it. But, it took the intervention of the police to stop the act.
By press time, Ewane's corpse was lying at the Kumba District Hospital Mortuary pending burial arrangements.Meanwhile, Lovett is under custody at the Kumba gendarmerie.
