New York Red Bull, the club of South African Danleigh Borman, lost in the final of the US championship on Sunday, going down 3-1 to Columbus Crew in the MLS Cup.

Crew, the former club of Doctor Khumalo, won with goals from Alejandro Moreno, Chad Marshall and Frankie Hedjuk. New York's only goal came from John Wolyniec.

Borman, who played in the regular seasons but lost his place in the play-offs, did not feature in the match squad.

The 22-year-old from Cape Town was signed at the start of the year after playing at the University of Rhode Island on a soccer scholarship.
