Ghana: Zamalek Compound Agogo Misery

24 November 2008

Junior Agogo's misery in Egypt continues after his club Zamalek slapped a fine on him for allegedly making obscene gestures at opposing fans in a League game.

Zamalek have fined the Ghanaian $4000 dollars after claiming they will protest against the three game suspension that the Egyptian Football Federation handed the Black Stars striker.

Zamalek football director Ahmed Arafar says they will go ahead with the appeal but say they had no choice but to sanction the Ghanaian striker after reviewing the video.

"We admit that Agogo made a mistake, but we insist to get his suspension revoked," he told the club's website. "Imposing a fine is appropriate punishment but banning causes more problems for the misbehaved player."

Zamalek are effectively saying they must not be punished for Agogo's misbehaviour on the pitch but the latest episode would add to the striker's frustration since he moved to Egypt from English side Nottingham Forest.

The goals have not come as often as he would have wanted and the pressure is clearly getting to the Ghanaian.
