Kampala — Tirupati Development (U) Limited, one of the construction companies in Uganda is to set up a US$10m shopping mall along Nsambya-Ggaba Road.
During a function to lay down a foundation stone last week, the Sales and Marketing Manager, Cissy Namaganda said the project would begin soon and be completed in January 2010. The mall, which will be called Tirupati Mazima Mall, will consist of 200 shops and offices. She called on all the interested parties to start booking space by making a 20% deposit.
Namaganda said the main aim of Tirupati is to change the face of Kampala and Uganda as a whole by developing underdeveloped areas especially slums and making people realise their dreams by owning their own shops. She also decried banks in Uganda for not readily providing commercial loans to customers of houses, which she said was the major problem the company was facing and appealed to the Governor Bank of Uganda Emmanuel Mutebile to look into the matter.
Tirupati, which has its roots in India, started business in Uganda in 2006 and they have accomplished several projects, the biggest being a shopping mall at Ovino Market in Kisenyi, a Kampala suburb consisting of 4,000 shops. Other projects include Nkumba Village located off Entebbe Road, Sunrise Apartments in Kamwokya and Tirupati Half London located in Kansanga among others.
Speaking at the function, the General Manager Tirupati (U)Ltd, Habib Dodea said the company has got six projects running and added that they do not only target areas around Kampala but other districts as well. He said the company intends to set up a recreational centre in Jinja soon.
