ZIMBABWE'S conveyer belt of rugby players keeps supplying talent to South African national teams.
With two Zimbabwean-born players, props Tendai Mtawarira and Brian Mujati, currently on a tour of Europe with the Springboks, the South Africa Sevens national team has lined up another exciting local talent.
Harare-born Tendayi Chikukwa was, last week, named in a 24-man Springbok Sevens training squad to prepare for the forthcoming IRB World Sevens Series in Dubai and South Africa.
Chikukwa, an 85kg eighthman, was called up by Boks Sevens coach Paul Treu alongside fellow Blue Bulls player Marnus Schoeman. Chikukwa, however, unlike Mtawarira and Mujati, received his High School education in South Africa -- at Pretoria Boys' High School.
Last year, he was one of South Africa's most promising schoolboy players to be contracted by the Bulls.
The 19-year-old loose forward has also attended South Africa Under-21 trials.
Zimbabwe continues to lose top rugby talent to other countries. Last week, Gweru-born David Pocock won his maiden Test cap for Australia against New Zealand.
Zimbabwe Rugby Union president Bruce Hobson said the latest selection does not surprise him.
"There has never been doubt that we have world-class players in this country," he said. "We are a rugby nation. Imagine if all these guys played for us!"
