Nigeria: Vision 2020 - Nimn Regrets, As Zain, NB Supports Name Awards

Top management of the National Institute of Marketing of Nigeria (NIMN), regulators of the marketing profession in the country, has expressed disappointment over the institute's inability to contribute to the Vision 2020 agenda of the Federal Government, as Zain, NBL support NAME award.

The institute said their failure to contribute to the initiative was as a result of the prolonged crisis that rocked the warring parties of the institute with each laying claim to the authenticity of the institute.

Chief Sylva Emokpere, Deputy President and Abdul Ganiyu Koledoye, Vice President of the institute, at a media briefing under the President of the institute, Chief Luggard Aimiuwu, after both parties have reconciled, Emokpere said as a body bound in unity of purpose, the institute had constituted a marketing education conference with a view to liaising with tertiary institutions on the need to acquaint lecturers with the up-to date in marketing trends across the globe.

Koledoye said the institute had since put the crisis behind. His words: "It is regrettable that the institute did not contribute to Vision 2020 and the seven-point agenda of President Umaru Yar'Adua. He, however, noted that the vision of the new institute was to create values for consumers' empowerment and society development.

In a different development, leading GSM company, Zain, topped the list of sponsoring companies that have identified with the 2008 National Award for Marketing Excellence (NAME), which holds this week.

It is put together by the National Institute of Marketing of Nigeria (NIMN), which would also be celebrating the unification of the marketing profession for the very first time in the history of the marketing regulatory institute.

Other companies that would be partnering NIMN are Nigerian Breweries Plc (NB), Union Bank, and foremost telecom company, MTN.

According to Mr Patrick Ukah, CEO of Ventolite Marketing International, the event's manager, while some of the companies are partnering the award, others are major sponsorship and many are supporting in kind.
