Maitisong hosted its last event of the season last Saturday, namely the President's Concert, which was graced by President Ian Khama himself. The President's Concert is an annual event that honours a sitting president and it was Khama's first since he came to power in April this year.
The show was well attended and one of the things worth mentioning is the fact that organisers and performing artists observed time.
Act One kicked off with the singing of the Botswana National Anthem by the Sedibeng Choral Society and the Gaborone Music Society. Then the former performed the shortened version of The Pirates of Penzance, which recently premiered at Maitisong.
Well-known classic music singer, Boitumelo Pilane followed with You Know The Answer before collaborating with Oteng Zachariah and delivering a beautiful piece, Make Our Hands One Hand.
The talented duo were followed by the Gaborone Music Society who offered a couple of pieces before the locally celebrated poet, Tjawanga 'TJ Dema' took over.
Maruapula Marimba and 'the kids' came after the wordsmith.
Samantha Thomas and Andrew Kola performed a fusion dance followed by The Three Tenors - Boyce Batlang, Setso Kgabung and Tshepiso Gaborone - who delivered a powerful rendition of You Raise Me Up.
After the talented trio came the versatile Mogwana traditional dance troupe, who never disappoint. Mogwana always prove to their audiences across the globe that they are leaders among their peers and the only competition they have had so far is from their equally talented rivals Ditholwana.
Just before the 30-minute intermission, David Slater, Celine Mattee and Verity Knight delivered a classical piece.
At the beginning of Act Two, Mascom chief executive officer (CEO) Jose Couceiro presented a P40, 000 cheque to the Ray of Hope Foundation.
An ensemble, namely 'No Business Like Show Business' and directed by Stuart White, which was the last performance of the night, followed and the undisputed stars of the act were Lebogang Motubudi and Nanaaya Awuah-Moyo.
The individuals who put the show together should be commended for an amazing job and for observing the schedule.
The director of Maitisong, Rosalyn Beukes, also deserves a pat on the back for hosting all the shows at Maitisong.
Under her directorship this year, Maitisong has hosted a number of shows ranging from gospel, opera to orchestra, the spoken word, plays, comedy, dance and numerous festivals.
The President's Show was hosted by Mascom in association with Maitisong and all the proceeds go to Ray of Hope Foundation.
