Luanda — The ministers belonging to the member countries of Gulf of Guinea Commission (CGG) Monday in Luanda expressed their recognition of the Angolan head of State, José Eduardo dos Santos, and of his Government at the initiatives focussed on restoration of peace and security in the Democratic Republic of Congo (RDC).
The recognition is contained in the final statement emerged from the IV meeting of the Cabinet Council of Gulf of Guinea Commission, held in Luanda, and aimed at preparing the second Summit of the Heads of State and Government of the referred organ, set for Tuesday, November 25.
According to the declaration, the participants have also taken notice of the UN Security Council Resolution 1843, dated 20 November, 2008, temporarily authorising the increase of 3,000 - members of MONUC, with the view to strengthen its capacity of protecting the civilians.
On the international financial crisis and its impact in the economies of the member countries, the meeting recommended a harmonised action among the member States, in particular across the finance ministers and the governors of the central banks.
The ministers also discussed on the situation of peace and security in sub-region of Gulf of Guinea, during which they proposed the creation of committee made up of all member states with view to analyse and deepen the proposal of the creation of a mechanism of joint security aimed at facing terrorism, criminality and banditry actions.
To this purpose they agreed to hold a thematic conference scheduled for 2009 in Sao Tome and Principe that will bring together competent ministers in the sector.
Created in 1999, the Gulf of Guinea Commission comprises Angola, Democratic Republic of Congo, Republic of Congo, Nigeria, Sao Tome and Principe, Gabon, Cameroon and Equatorial Guinea.
