Kampala — A TOTAL of sh200m is needed to ensure that every woman in Uganda is educated about breast cancer, the executive director of the National Breast Cancer Care Foundation (NBCCF), said.
Dr. Florence Mugisha was talking to guests at a golf prize-giving ceremony to mark the end of breast cancer awareness month recently.
Mugisha said although this year has seen the best breast cancer awareness campaigns in the media, coupled with free breast cancer check-ups, a lot still needs to be done to ensure that every woman is educated.
"Since we still do not know the cause of breast cancer, it is difficult to prevent it. Awareness, which will lead to early detection if women regularly do the self-breast exam and go for check-ups, is the best weapon against this disease. We need to urgently reach every woman in order to save lives," she said.
Mugisha also advised women to wear comfortable and fitting bras to ensure proper blood circulation to the breasts, although this is not necessarily linked to breast cancer.
The golf tournament was the crowning activity of the breast cancer awareness month. it was organised by the Uganda Golf Club Ladies section and sponspred by Uganda Revenue Authority, Engen, Eskom, Kobil, MTN and Stanbic Bank.
