Uganda: Wamala Condemns High Rate of Child Sacrifice

Kampala — The rate at which children are being sacrificed is alarming, the Archbishop Emeritus of Kampala, Emmanuel Cardinal Wamala, has said.

"I think people are running crazy," he said.

Other religions have also condemned the vice, but the habit is becoming rampant, Wamala warned.

Wamala also urged parents to facilitate their children's education, despite the Government's introduction of the universal primary and secondary education programmes.

"It is the primary responsibility of parents to pay tuition, provide lunch, scholastic materials and clothes for their children, rather than waiting for the Government," he appealed.

Wamala was speaking at the launch of a new branch of All Saints Primary School in Lweza, off Entebbe Road, on Sunday.

He urged the Catholic community to uphold the Ten Commandments, saying failure to follow them had led to immorality.

The parents and Nalongo Mary Kakeeto, the proprietor of the school, donated clothes worth sh650,000 to war victims in the north.

"The school has a social responsibility towards those who are suffering," Kakeeto said.
