A group known as Niger Delta Revolutionary Movement, in Asaba, has called for a better deal for the people of the Niger Delta region.

Addressing a rally in Asaba weekend, the State Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) Comrade Mike Okeme said "this type of sensitization is okay. Labour is behind you. We want 50 percent of the derivation not 13 percent, labour will back you up", he stated.

In a goodwill message sent by a renowned constitutional lawyer, Dr. Akpo Mudiaga-Odje, he said "the oil companies should relocate their headquarters to the Niger Delta area where they operate from to create development and empowerment of the people.

And those non-oil multinational companies should embark on developing their areas of operations as they do abroad".

He further called for the "construction of roads and bridges to link the coastal oil producing areas which suffer degradation from the effects of oil exploration".

There were several solidarity messages from different social crusaders at Oshimili South Local Government arcade, Asaba, where they assembled before moving round the streets of Asaba for what they called 'advocacy rally'.
