Nigeria: N5.3 Billion Water Treatment Plant for Kano

Kano State Government has awarded a contract for water treatment plant at the cost of N5.3billion.

The multi billion naira contract awarded to a consortium of PCI of south Africa, and Costain West Africa at Bagwai Local Government Area with completion target date of 24 months is anticipated to generate 75million litres per day .

Kano Governor, Malam Ibrahim Shekarau in a speech during the foundation laying ceremony, announced that the project on completion would supply water to 3 Local Government Areas, and over hundreds of local communities.

Malam Ibrahim Shekarau explained that the ambitious project is a joint venture between the state Government and the 44 Local Council, adding that while the state Government would provide N4.3billion, the entire 44 council would contribute N1billion to the project.

Malam Ibrahim Shekarau revealed that the sum of N1billion has been released to the contractors to kick start activities at the site, stressing that he would ensure contractors adhere strictly to the contractual agreement.

Malam Ibrahim Shekarau described the foundation laying ceremony of the water project as another watershed in the socio-economic transformation of the state, adding that the potential beneficiaries of the scheme have suffered untold hardship in areas of supply of water for domestic and sundry services.

Malam Sheakarau assures the preparedness of his administration to regular maintenance of water facilities and other infrastructure across the state to meet the yearning of the citizenry.

Speaking earlier, the Deputy Governor, who also double as the Commissioner for Water Resources, Alhaji Tijjani Muhammad Gwarzo urged the people to watch over the facilities, lamenting that the recent theft of facilities at the Tomas Water scheme in the state is serious set back on the march to permanently fix the water problem in the state.
