Johannesburg — New anti-crime song calls on S Africans to fight crime. Local musicians, in partnership with the Gauteng Department of Community Safety, released the song on Monday which aims to draw people's attention to crime.
Some of the lyrics of the song include "let us come together and deal with crime. Take Charge. The crime stops with me!"
The single is performed by various artists including Ringo Madlingozi, Jeff Maluleka, Eugene Mthethwa, Deborah Frazer, Steve Kekana and Ihhashi Elimhlophe.
Speaking at the launch of the song, Community Safety MEC, Firoz Cachalia said he hoped that through music the message will reach a wider audience.
"A song is important or maybe more powerful way of communicating messages rather than words alone. So a whole lot of people will much prefer to listen to a song rather than from politicians like me," said MEC Cachalia on the release of the song.
The song is in line with the provincial government's Take Charge campaign which was launched in March last year with the aim of mobilising communities to combat crime.
"The song will play a very important role in popularising the Take Charge Anti crime campaign in broadening its appeal in reaching millions of people," said MEC Cachalia.
Through the campaign, Gauteng had recorded a decrease in crime and this was largely owed to the partnerships the department had formed with communities and sectors including entertainment and business.
"We are going to defeat crime in this province through mass action. As a department we want to reaffirm our belief and commitment that if we work together we can win this fight against crime," said MEC Cachalia. -
