It has taken the PSL two years to discover that the floodlights at Blue Downs Stadium do not offer sufficient lighting.
NFD outfit FC Cape, who usually play their home matches on a Friday evening - a Cape tradition since the early 1960's when pro soccer was introduced to the Mother City - were forced last week to change this and entertain Vasco da Gama on Saturday afternoon.
"We've been playing there for two years when suddenly the ref complained," says the club's general manager Shaun Goate.
Professor Ronnie Schloss then came to the venue with his light meter and has now condemned the ground for evening matches.
"The minimum output should be 600 lux, but Schloss' reading was only between 230 and 240."
And this is not the only thing which has left the club frustrated with their council-owned ground - there have also been allegations against the council staff that the pitch is not being maintained correctly, basic necessities, like toilet rolls, are often not available and that the change room keys arrive late.
"FC Cape Town is not allowed to do anything," adds Goate.
"If you change a light bulb they (the council) write you a stinking letter, but it takes me from Wednesday morning until Friday afternoon to get things organised for a match. By this stage, the man in charge of the ground doesn't even know where he is. He's floating about somewhere and I'm forced to call his boss who works for the Parks and Recreation Department."
"In fact, last Saturday there was a lot of confusion just prior to kick off when all you could hear was 'Where is the toilet paper?' and officials complaining about the lack of security for Vasco's change room.
"And when the person responsible for the paper and keys did eventually arrive to open the stadium gate, there was talk of changing locks because some keys didn't fit.
"This is frustrating," says a veteran match commissioner. "I'm going to report it because FC Cape Town says they're going to put someone on the door of the Vasco change room, but this is not acceptable. The players won't check their stuff until much later after the game and by then it's too late if something is missing!"
