25 November 2008

Freetown — In responding to the call of weeding corruption out of our improvised society, the anti-corruption commission, ACC, yesterday arraigned three public officials before Justice Nicholas Browne-Marke for allegedly misappropriating public funds.

Kashopeh Wellington, former director of the Sierra Leone broadcasting service and his former accountant Madonna Druscilla Cole were accused of misusing US$22,200 provided by the British Broadcasting Service (BBC) for the use of the Leicester Peak facility.

The accused pleaded not guilty to the offences.

It could be recalled that Wellington was forced out of office in the wake of president Koroma's ascendancy to power.

Also, the chief clerk at the immigration department faced the court for alleged corrupt practices.

Alhaji Alie Badara Seisay was said to have solicited and accepted money for the preparation of a national passport.

He also pleaded not guilty to the offence.

Both matters were adjourned to December 11 and 3, 2008 respectively.
