Sierra Leone: Koya Community Expresses Concern Over Paramount Chief's Two-Bag Rice Contribution

Residents of Koya chiefdom in the Port Loko district have expressed serious concern over a request made by Paramount Chief Bomboli that every village within the chiefdom show contribute two bags of clean rice to him.

Speaking to Concord Times at the Matimba village on Sunday, assistant to the Paramount Chief who also doubles as Chiefdom Speaker, Chief Naimgbana Bomboli Fallah II alleged that his boss is harassing the villages to make the said contribution as he intends to organize a ceremony.

"My people are grumbling every day about this issue," Fallah said.

Similar concerns were also expressed by one of the community elders, Pa Issa Fornah who said the talk of the contribution is now a subject of discussion in the entire chiefdom.

Some of the villages already targeted to make the rice contribution include Momulai, Magba, Makali, Mobalay, Matbana and Robath.

"Things are very hard in the country and this might make it very difficult for some villages to comply," Fornah said.

He however called on the intervention of the Ministry of Local Government to investigate what is going on in the Koya chiefdom.
