Tunis — President Zine El Abidine Ben Ali met on Tuesday with Mr Moncer Rouissi, the Chairman of the Higher Committee for Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms. During the meeting, the Head of State focused on the activities of the Committee within the framework of the enforcement of the law issued in June 2008, destined at reinforcing the Committee's role and broadening its prerogatives.
President Ben Ali recommended to fine-tune measures relative to the implementation of the provisions of the law so that the committee occupies the place it deserves, on both national and international levels.
The Higher Committee for Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms which was created by virtue of the decree of January 7, 1991 helps the President of the Republic in consolidating and promoting Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms. The Committee prepares an annual report which is submitted to the President of the Republic and publishes national reports which are published on a regular basis.
On the other hand, Mr Rouissi who has also been entrusted by the President of the Republic with chairing the national consultation for employment, presented the Head of State with the national consultation's final report.
