Kampala — BUGABULA and other breakaway chiefdoms of Busoga kingdom have installed their own Kyabazinga, according to Issabalangira (chief prince) Caesar Lukalu.
"We enthroned Prince Gabula Nadiope IV as our new Kyabazinga to succeed the late Wako Muloki.
We are not actually planning just to install him as Jinja RDC Apollo Bwebale had alleged," Lukalu told The New Vision on Friday.
He was reacting to Bwebale's earlier threat to deal with the royal chiefs opposed to Kyabazinga-elect, Columbus Wambuzi.
"I only hope the RDC is working alone, otherwise this will send a clear signal about government's contravention of the 1995 constitution by going ahead to get involved in a cultural set-up. Why don't we as Basoga be left to settle our own customary issues?" he asked.
He emphasised that Muloki's son was not supposed to succeed him as Kyabazinga since the Busoga constitution of 2000 stipulates that the kingship is not hereditary.
He argued that instead of protecting Wambuzi by increasing his security, the Government should question the irregularities over-shadowing his election.
"They are only five chiefs who voted (for Wambuzi)," he said.
Chiefs opposed to Wambuzi's reign are Fred Kakaire (Bugweri), Patrick Izimba (Kigulu), Christopher Mutyaba (Bukono), Nadiope (Bugabula) and Munulo Luba (Bunyha).
Izimba criticised the use of the word 'rebel' in reference to the five chiefs, insisting that they have a just cause.
