Kampala — A SENIOR NRM party official has warned party leaders from Busoga against meddling in the kingdom's affairs.
"Our policy as a party is clear. We do not interfere in traditional institutions' leadership," said Mike Mukula, the NRM vice-chairperson for eastern Uganda.
"Whoever is meddling into your kingdom's affairs is doing it as an individual and let them be warned that they risk being punished by the party," he told fundraisers at St. Mary's Kawete Primary School in Kigulu North constituency last Friday.
Mukula was referring to the current leadership wrangles in the Busoga kingdom, which followed the death of Kyabazinga Henry Wako Muloki in September.
Prince Edward Columbus Wambuzi, one of Muloki's sons, was elected the new Kyabazinga last month but some kingdom chiefs opposed his election and accused the Government of helping him win the election.
"The NRM restored these institutions, so we cannot disorganise them. We only give protection to leaders whom you decide on," Mukula said.
The disgruntled Busoga officials have petitioned court seeking to annul Wambuzi's election.
Mukula contributed sh1m to the drive in which sh15m was raised.
The head teacher, George William Buyinza, said the funds will be used to renovate the buildings.
He said they need sh45m more to construct teachers' quarters.
MPs Edward Kafufu Baliddawa, Beti Kamya, Milton Muwuma, Justine Lumumba and Bernard Mulegani of the East African Parliament attended.
