Uganda: Government Told to Involve NGOs in Saving Lakes

Francis Kagolo

25 November 2008

Kampala — THE Government has been urged to involve non-government organisations in decision making, planning and monitoring of the Lake Victoria Environmental Management Project.

This is to find ways of protecting Lake Victoria from pollution and over-fishing.

The call was made at a workshop at Bulange in Mengo by Anna Nantale, the coordinator of the East African Communities Organisation for the Management of Lake Victoria on Friday.

Nantale said her organisation would also sensitise the youth and fishermen about promiscuity to curb the high HIV/AIDS prevalence rates in the fishing communities.
