Luanda — The Angolan Head of State, José Eduardo dos Santos, was appointed as chairman of the Gulf of Guinea Commission member countries, at the end of the second ordinary summit of this organisation, which took place in Luanda.
The information is found in the last communiqué of the summit, which happened between 10:30 am and 03:30 pm at Luanda's Talatona Convention Centre.
The Gabonese President, Omar Bongo, is the outgoing chairman of the organisation.
The former Sao Tomean president, Miguel Trovoada, was appointed to chair the executive secretariat.
The Gulf of Guinea Commission was established in 1999 and groups Angola, The Democratic Republic of Congo, Nigeria, Sao Tome and Principe, Gabon, Cameroon and Equatorial Guinea.
It is also the organisation's task to reinforce cooperation and solidarity among member states, create mutual trust, peace and security required for the member states' harmonious development.
