Lagos — Three suspected armed robbers who allegedly killed a police Constable, were on Monday arraigned in Lagos.
Ayo Adebangboye, 26; Bashiru Abubakar, 36; and Francis Okwuwayi, 33 appeared before Chief Magistrate, Oluyemisi Adelaja on a seven-count charge of conspiracy, robbery and murder.
The Prosecutor, Mr. Daniel Apoche, told the court that the suspects shot Constable Bukar Usman, after a robbery operation at about midnight on Oct. 2 at the Abattoir Market, Oko-Oba, Agege.
He said the policeman was part of a patrol team, when he was shot after the robbers had just robbed some traders in their homes within the market.
Apoche alleged that the suspects, who had been terrorising the market for some time, made away with N2.8 million, belonging to one Alhaji Al-Hassan Abdullahi.
He added that N1.9 million belonging to another trader, Umaru Chamnu, was also stolen by the robbers.
Apoche said it was in the process of trying to escape, that the robbers came across the patrol team, which engaged them in a gun battle.
The chief magistrate ordered that the suspects be remanded in prison custody, pending the advice of the Director of Public Prosecution. She adjourned the case till December 19.
