Swaziland: Mashaba Helping Cosafa Squad

27 November 2008

Former Bafana Bafana coach Ephraim 'Shakes' Mashaba, who currently holds the reins of Swaziland's national team, has been roped in to that country's youth.

Mashaba was called to the squad to help head coach Harris 'Madze' Bulunga and his assistant Peneul Malinga at the annual Cosafa Under-20 tournament that kicks off in Kimberley this weekend.

Mashaba, who was the first South African coach to win the Cosafa Senior Cup in 2004 when he beat Malawi, told KickOff.com that he has seen the potential in the players and that they are determined to do better than their past performances.

"We are working very well with the players at training and the spirit is high," he said.

Swaziland has never gone beyond the group stages since South Africa became the sole holder of the games almost a decade ago.

"I've been with the team for a reasonable period now and I can see that they want to win whenever they play. I hope they can take that spirit into the tournament," he added.
