The Government of Liberia and Lebanon have vowed to further strengthen and cement the cordial ties subsisting between the two countries.
Both nations renewed their commitment to strengthen the already cordial ties subsisting between the two countries when the Lebanese Embassy near Monrovia held a special reception in observance of the Lebanese government's 56th. Independence Day Anniversary, which was held at the Lebanese Embassy in Sinkor.
Vice President Joseph Boakai, who read a special statement on behalf of the Liberian Government recognized the Lebanese Community in the country for its efforts in bringing with them what he called, "notable contributions" to the Liberian society in the areas of business, commerce, education, sports and arts.
Vice President Boakia noted that the Lebanese community has maintained a strong commitment to their adopted home land of Liberia while also cherishing their cultural and ethnic heritage.
He noted that over the years, the two nations have experienced unimaginable violence and instability which have tended to reverse their gains but happily, because of their resilience and fortitude, they have been able to bounce back and maintain a steady course to peace and development.
"In most recent times, we have made it very clear that we oppose any activities in our two countries which have threatened to compromise our respective sovereignties.
Liberia will continue to support international efforts to enable the Lebanese government, or any genuine government for that matter, to exercise its sovereign rights without hindrance.
We see this as an indispensable component of a just and lasting peace settlement in our world," he said.
He added that it was the prayers of all Liberians that the bonds of friendship, solidarity and cooperation existing between the two countries and people will be further strengthened as they work together for peace and security, social justice and economic development.
Earlier, the Lebanese Ambassador, Mr. Mauraur Abdullah extolled the cordial ties between the two nations and renewed his country's commitment to working with Liberia in its renewal efforts.
The ceremony was graced by several senior officials of government including members of the cabinet, members of the diplomatic corps, among others.
