Angola: Minister Considers Haematology Congress Important

27 November 2008

Luanda — Angola Health minister, José Ván-Dunem, said Thursday in Luanda that the ongoing first National Congress on Haematology has a great importance as it seeks solutions to blood-related diseases.

The official was speaking at the opening of the First National Congress on Haematology.

He added that there is need for a far-reaching, coherent and efficient approach to the haematological problems.

José Ván-Dunem recalled that many diseases are transmitted through blood transfusion, which makes of them a serious problem of public health.

He said the blood issue is still a serious problem in Angola and the Health Ministry considers that measures should be taken to reverse the situation.

The minister added that the blood problem is not all that easy to resolve and the institutions should get organised to find the most appropriate solutions.

According to him, the approval of a national blood policy and its knowledge by people linked to the health sector is one of the several measures taken for the institutions to adjust to the countries needs.

The first National Congress on Haematology will close Friday and is intended to create methods of action of effective combat against blood-related diseases in Angola.

The meeting is being attended by representatives of the provinces of Bié, Cabinda, Huíla, Kwanza Sul, Kwanza Norte, Moxico, Namibe and Zaire.

The opening of the event was witnessed by the deputy minister of Health Alberto Maceka, the representative to Angola of the World Health Organisation (WHO), Diosdado Nsule, and the chairman of the Angolan Physicians Order, Carlos Alberto.
