Asmara — The Ministry of Trade and Industry today issued a new directive replacing that of 6 May 2006 regarding the import of commercial and non-commercial items.
The new directive clearly spells out items imported by importers/exporters, commission agencies, private trade/economic establishments, governmental and organizational trading institutions, governmental or organizational non-trading institutions, non-commercial commodities imported by non-governmental institutions, private/family items, authorized items for travelers, items sent by nationals residing abroad to individual families and others.
Regarding the authorized items imported by travelers, the directive states that the value of the imported items should not exceed USD 1,500. It also outlines the type of commodities that citizens living abroad who fulfilled their national obligations could send to relatives inside the country.
