Kickoff (Cape Town)
28 November 2008
Nigeria skipper Nwankwo Kanu made his first start for Portsmouth and marked it with a goal that gave Pompey a two-goal advantage in their UEFA Cup match against AC Milan.
But a spectacular freekick from Ronaldinho and a last gasp strike from Filipo Inzaghi earned Milan a 2-2 draw at Fratton Park, and Kanu was left to dwell on the positives from the game.
"Its a nice game and we enjoyed it. But we didn't get the three points and we deserved to get it. We were two up and we needed to seal up the game and make sure they didn't come back."
Plenty of the Pompey faithful left the stadium disappointed, but Papilo insists that they got value for money.
"All the fans were really expecting this game and on our side, we didn't disappoint them because we put up a good show."
And on a personal note, Kanu was pleased to have got a goal, after turning in Glen Johnson's low cross.
He was also involved in the buildup to the first Pompey goal.
"I am so happy that I scored. But it would have been better if it could have been 2-1 and we won.
"It's my first game. It's been a long time I haven't started a game and I got the opportunity and I didn't disappoint anybody."
The win sends AC Milan to the last 32, but Pompey will now have to win their next two games to qualify.
