The current effort by the Lagos State government at beautifying the state may continue to suffer. It is not that the right work is not being done at the right place, but there is a fundamental flaw in the area of refuse management. Though there are PSP refuse trucks everywhere parking the tons of refuse generated in the state daily, the way refuse litters parts of the roads is still nothing to write home about.
For proper coordination of refuse disposal, it is imperative for waste baskets to be provided strategically on the roads, especially the commercial places where there is high population density. This would prevent or reduce to the barest minimum the issue of refuse littering the nooks and crannies of the state. Most times, passersby would not want to drop their wastes, papers, empty cans and nylon wraps on the road, but due to lack of waste collector baskets, they have no option than to drop them on the expressways.
Most of the wastes that are thrown on the road end up in the drains, which blocks it and at the same time making the environment unhygienic. If the waste baskets are provided, it would help Lagos achieve its cleanliness target. At the same time, these baskets should be monitored and properly emptied as at when due. Its usage must not become a nuisance to the environment.

Should the Lagos State government provide road side refuse bin for the public, a law should be enacted that will make it an offence punishable by a fine or even improsement for any body caught littering or urinating in the public.
