Nigeria: Rep Blames Weak Budget Implementation On Poor Preparation

Abuja — Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on National Planning and Economic Development, Linus Umoh, on Thursday blamed the weak implementation of the country's budget on the way it is being prepared by the Federal Government.

In a statement entitled, "Making of the Budget of the Federal Government of Nigeria - A Budget truly for the People of Nigeria, 2009", Umoh also held the National Assembly responsible for poor implementation of the budget due to the way its members consider and approve it.

He said while officials of the government concern themselves with "their thinking" and not that of the people during the packaging of the budget for their ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs), the lawmakers are faced with obscurity in correlating the needs of their electorate with the requirements of the MDAs.

Umoh said this in the face of arguments that the 2008 budget is being poorly implemented.
