Tunisia: President Ben Ali Focuses of Health Sector

Tunis — President Zine El Abidine Ben Ali received on Thursday Mr Mondher Zenaidi, Minister of Public Health who briefed him on the activities of the health sector. The meeting also focused on the ways of improving the sector's efficiency.

In this context, the Head of State received a report on the implementation of the strategy he had decided in view of strengthening Tunisia's position as an export pole of health services, by taking cognizance of the state of advancement of the relative legal texts, as well as the strategic study on the commercialisation of Tunisian health services, as well as the creation of specialised structures in terms of support for investors and the handing out of accreditation certificates.

President Ben Ali was also briefed on the state of advancement of the implementation of measures he had decided in view of strengthening specialized medical services in priority areas, so as to promote health services and bring them closer to citizens.

He also recommended to speed up the setting up of cardiology and cancer treatment units in Jendouba, Gabes and Gafsa.

On the other hand, the President of the Republic also focused on the celebrations afoot for the fifty years of existence of the creation of the Tunisian order of physicians and issued recommendations in view of taking advantage of this occasion, to showcase the progress achieved by Tunisia in the sector of medicine, as well as its many assets.
