Premier Soccer League general manager Ace Ncobo has cleared up the confusion that was created by the appearance of Moroka Swallows' defender Fabian McCarthy in the mid-week league match against AmaZulu, despite the PSL indicating that the player was suspended for that game.
McCarthy 'surprisingly' took to the field in the 2-1 win and played 90 minutes of the game though he had been listed as one of six players suspended for the Wednesday night matches.
In the list sent out by the PSL to the media on Tuesday, McCarthy was listed as suspended for the mid-week game along with Japie Motale, Rooi Mahamutsa, Kampamba Chintu, Ashraf Hendricks and Sipho Mngomezulu.
"There was an error on the list that was sent out to the media," Ncobo admitted after KickOff.com alerted the League on the discrepancy.
"What actually happened was that McCarthy went into that match sitting on two yellow cards. He then got a third yellow which now rules him out for the next game.
"Going into the mid-week game, he was eligible to play. We regret the confusion that the mistake on list which we sent out has caused."
