Nigeria: Country Ranked Tenth in Beach Soccer

30 November 2008

Nigeria has been ranked number 10 in the world in the game of beach soccer.

The rankings, updated with the results of the Year 2008, was released by Beach Soccer World Wide (BSWW).

Participating nations are ranked based on their participation and competition results in the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cups between 2005 and 2008.

A point system was used, with points being awarded based on the results of games played at the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup.

For the teams that have not been able to qualify for any global showpiece, the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup Qualifier 2008 participation and final standing was taken into consideration.

Nigeria has shown considerable strength in beach soccer since coming into the game in 2006, playing at the 2006 and 2007 FIFA Beach Soccer World Cups and winning the African Championship in South Africa last year.

The team however failed to reach this year's World Cup in France after failing at the African Championship in South Africa.
