Angola: Youth and Sports Minister in Monaco

29 November 2008

Luanda — Angolan minister of Youth and Sports, Gonçalves Muandumba, left Luanda on Friday for Monaco, to represent the prime minister, Paulo Kassoma, at the International Forum on Peace and Sports, scheduled for December 2-6 this year.

Speaking to Angop at Luanda's "4 de Fevereiro" International Airport, before departing, minister Muandumba said the forum, organised by prince Alberto II will tackle such topics as sport as a geopolitical instrument for peace, the Sporting movement of each country and competitions legislative framework.

Gonçalves Muandumba will speak of the role of sports in conflict zones, taking into account the experience of Angola.

Sport as a conflict prevention instrument, in the face of inter-ethic tensions, the role of sports as a means of approximation of generations are also topics for the event.

On his way to Monaco, the minister said, he will stop over in Portugal, where he will exchange views with his local counterpart, as Angola currently chairs the Conference of Sports Ministers of the Portuguese Speaking Community (CPLP).

The parties will discuss the preparation of the next conference scheduled to take place in March 2009, in Portugal.

This is Gonçalves Muandumba's first travel since appointed minister, following the legislative election of September this year.
